THE FIRST ANNUAL INVITATIONAL EXHIBITION
2025
Welcome to the First Annual Invitational Exhibition of Decagon Gallery, a celebration of artistic vision and photographic mastery. For this inaugural event, we are honored to showcase the exceptional work of photographers who have been specially invited to submit. This exhibition is not just a collection of images, but a curated reflection of the diverse approaches, techniques, and stories that photography uniquely captures.
Each piece in this exhibition was chosen for its ability to provoke thought, evoke emotion, and showcase the artistry behind the lens. The photographers featured here represent a wide range of styles, from intimate portraits to grand landscapes, and everything in between. Their work pushes boundaries and invites us to look deeper into the world around us.
We hope this online event offers you an inspiring journey through visual storytelling and allows you to experience photography in its many forms. Thank you for joining us in celebrating the creative talents of these distinguished artists.

My photography explores themes of childhood trauma, repressed memories, fears, and phobias.
I use dolls, toys, and myself as characters in constructed narratives where trauma either has or is about to happen.

The Heavy in White series (Caryatid VIII, Lalique, Woman Eating Spaghetti, Women with Umbrellas) was inspired by body-consciousness, and my desire to create a fantasy world where women could break free of self-criticism. I wanted to challenge societal ideals on weight, beauty and sexuality. My “Globe" collections (Balance) explore the inner worlds of women. I play with light to evoke a magical quality, one that would emphasize peace and stillness.
In Women in Landscape series (Sandflower), I photographed mountain ranges, the sea, and then I used foam core to make abstract sets for nudes to perform in, inspired by nature and its strange, abstract beauty. For my Geometrics (Torn Love) I created sets and photographed nude models, integrating the body with geometric forms. SUPERREAL (Venus At The Beach) is a series of photographs depicting hyperbolic reality of bold colors, warped perspective and reimagined landscapes. SUPERREAL finds extraordinary characters in ordinary environments.

I think like an artist who performs his work with photographic means. I do not depict the surrounding world, but create my own world, as I understand and realize it. I am inspired by literature, music, philosophy, some interesting sayings that I can illustrate. This is my inner world, my private metaphysics: illustrating my thoughts, emotions, memories...
I want my works to evoke emotions, they are not always positive, but they should not leave the viewer indifferent... The world of our private metaphysics is just as important for each of us, as well as the material world, and I show it in my works.

Matilde Esini, class'91, lives and works in Veneto. A law graduate, she concentrates her research on social and contemporary issues, paying attention to details and focusing on everything that has to do with communication.Artistic research:As part of her research, she has always used photography as a means of communication to focus her ideas, awareness and moods.Artistic research is based on the external projection of an idea, a feeling, which can be concretized in individual shots or projects that translate the vision of the world through photography.Once the certainty of a stable, objective reality is abandoned, a territory between the real and the imaginary opens up. The works often have as a common thread the intent to investigate the deeper meaning of sensations, events, circumstances by crystallizing them out of time and narrative space, in order to seek an abstraction that gradually goes to eliminate stereotypes generating in the viewer an interpretative ambiguity.

In this series of photographs, I explore femininity and the joys of life through vibrant, abstract compositions that evoke a sense of happiness. Utilizing colorful objects, pinwheels, personal garments—including iridescent shoes—female mannequins, colored papers, and ribbons, combined with light and shadow, I create dynamic arrangements that illuminate the female experience. Throughout my career, I have focused on light, shadow, and abstraction, employing varied camera angles to manipulate perception and spatial dimensions. My process begins with real objects and architectural spaces, transforming them into philosophical abstractions that dissolve into radiant fields of color. In my recent works, the interplay of intense darks and bright whites adds a psychological layer, infusing sensuality, tension, and mystery. The resulting prints possess a delicate artistry, inviting viewers to engage with the complexities of femininity and the joy within.

My name is Will and I just really enjoy photography.

Contemplative nature photographer from Germany. Discovered in 2015 by an art professor, many exhibitions followed in Germany and abroad, such as at the Salon de l'École Francaises in Paris-Versailles, and worldwide awards. Matthias Krispien converts perceptions, music, moods and experiences into his photos directly in the forest, touched by the moment and place in which he immerses himself deeply. In addition to poetry, inspired artists also create choreographies and musical pieces to accompany his pictures, including picture concerts.

Photography has been my passion since early childhood. My motivation is to discover and capture the beauty, even when it is not always readily self-evident, that surrounds us continuously in all areas of our everyday lives. I believe the finest images are those that are serious yet playful, aesthetically appealing yet a bit quirky. As both an artist and an admirer, my favorite photographs tend to be ones whose contents speak loudly for themselves — even when it is not immediately clear exactly what they are saying. They seek to inspire their viewers to wrestle with their intriguing contents and, as a result, ponder various aspects of our surrounding world in new and unique ways.

My lens is my window to the world. My photographic journey began as a means to document the chaotic beauty of life. Over time, it has evolved into a passion which keeps me alert and drives me to explore the world, looking for unique moments.
My goal is to create images that not only capture the eye but also engage the soul, inviting viewers to pause, reflect and connect with the stories told.
Through my photography, I aim to inspire a greater appreciation for the world around us and to create a sense of connection and respect for the diverse tapestry of our planet. Each photograph is a piece of my journey, a chapter in the ongoing story of discovery that defines us all. I hope that viewers relate to my images, sparking a sense of curiosity and a deeper understanding of the majestic beauty that surrounds us.

Believing that one picture is worth a million words, it is the task of the contemporary photographer to expose the magic that nature & humanity can perpetuate, using representations of form & colour to produce images reflecting the agonies & ecstasies of the process of making & the appreciation of the visual experience. Most interesting to me is the effect of light. As my work tends toward a high degree of realism, it’s only the product of trying to ‘shine light on something’, producing the illusion of high-fidelity realism, which, one hopes, has the ability to sway the viewers perception, imagination & consciousness.

The process of my photography is very cathartic for me. I explore the transience and mystery of life. I'm very inspired by the natural world and wildlife. In my photography, I attempt to convey an emotion or idea, in a manner that words alone cannot do. I also attempt to create images that might emotionally transport the viewer ,to an unknown place, either to feel a sense of beauty and calm or curiosity.

I make photographs that inspire and expand people’s experience of the world. I use my camera to document and explore unique perspectives and anomalous subjects, drawing the viewer’s attention to unseen details, vibrant colors, and distinctive compositions. My photographs invite people to think differently and to see even commonplace things in new ways.

My art is about everything that is see around myself and try to catch with the camera though not always successfully.

Fotógrafo amador, formado pelo Instituto Moreira Salles, apaixonado por viagens, tradições, pessoas e natureza.

I am a London-based cinematographer & creative by trade; & a hobbyist photographer - photography has always been a form of escape for me.
I find it far too easy to get caught up in the pace of city life & the speed of film sets - so I seek to travel as much as I can. As an introverted person, losing myself in nature & immersing myself in a different world helps me uncover a solace & stillness. Its in these moments I photograph more freely — perhaps given my personality, I’ve never been drawn to a maximalist style, to street photography, or anything featuring people too heavily: a key feature of my work is the absence of much human presence.
I’ve shot almost exclusively on film for years now; I like waiting for the right shot, not wasting frames; I love observing the quality & feel of light (esp across different countries), & how its shift can effect an image. Most of all, I like how it lets me take a beat, experience life and whatever gorgeous scene of nature is in front of me.
My work has been featured in F Stop Magazine, Decagon Gallery, Seedlings Summer 2024 issue, Mass Magazine and several times with travel articles on Shootitwithfilm.

Susan Roemer was born in Detroit, Michigan and received her B.F.A in Painting and Drawing from Arizona State University in Tempe Arizona in 1975 and a Masters in Fine Arts in Painting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1978.Searching for and finding the perfect subject, whether human, natural wonders and architectural is essential in creating my work, which has allowed me to utilize the camera as a way to capture and create mood, emotion and atmosphere within my paintings and photographs. The camera lens and the painters brush is how I am able to bring to life that which surrounds us, to represent a place or person in a moment in time that are often looked at but not seen. "The artist is both searcher and discoverer eager to discover the details of life."

My work is semi-abstract, surreal, and avant-garde. I am captivated by interesting forms and juxtapose elements in order to create mystery and amplify the magic I see in the world around me. My images invite the viewer to stay longer, drawing them into a deeper kind of “seeing.” Photography, for me, is a practice in seeing and presence. We go through life taking things that are right under our noses for granted, seeing in a superficial or preconceived way, or miss beauty entirely, limited by our own inner blockages. When I’m out with my camera, I force myself to observe more deeply, and search for those breathtaking glimpses I might normally miss.
I am intrigued by nature’s forms: Ice, flowing water, ancient trees, geological formations. I am drawn to seeing strong forms as my primary composition, and then I am interested in incorporating elements that can be juxtaposed, as found in a reflection, between foreground and background, edges, the contrast between flow and stillness, or illumination at just the right time. I see Nature as the ultimate sculptor, and painter. It is not so much that I am creating art, but unveiling that which exists around me. It is my job as a photographer to seek those interesting subjects out the infinite milieu, to wait for the light, to explore outside of the box of typical photos. My approach enables me to seek out that which is often overlooked, getting down on my belly, looking behind me in a window reflecting the scene in front of me, shimmying up a log, or coming back to a subject when the light itself becomes the subject.
It is my hope that my work inspires people to get out into the world, to explore with gusto, getting them to expand their comfort zones and find adventure in the limitless nature around them. I believe we all have the ability to re-ignite the curiosity we had as children. Our vision of the world through images may be a powerful portal for a deeper level of seeing.

Seeking exceptional visual moments in our astonishing world is almost an obsession of mine and photographing those moments allows my mind’s eye to find permanence. My vision is to meld mystery with beauty, urging the mind to question and the heart to feel.

Hello, I am José Valencia, and my artistic journey began with the creation of my brand, J. Valencia Photography, born out of my deep love for the art of photography back in 2014. I started with film, capturing anything that caught my eye—objects, scenes, and moments that felt abstract, even surreal. But everything shifted when I began traveling, particularly to Eastern Asian countries like Japan and the Philippines.
It was there that my vision truly evolved. I found myself drawn to candid photography—capturing the raw, unguarded moments of people, their emotions, and their responses to the world around them. The cultural contrasts I witnessed were both jarring and inspiring, offering me new ways of seeing life and new ways of creating art. Travel became my greatest teacher, reshaping my perspective and style in profound ways.
It was as though, with each journey, I was granted the freedom to explore my own creativity. I believe that, for any artist feeling blocked—whether from words or from images—stepping away from what you know and embracing the unfamiliar can unlock a new dimension of inspiration. Travel, even if just a short distance, has the power to shift both your outward view and your inner world. It’s a discovery of the parts of yourself you never knew existed, and in turn, it allows you to grow, to build confidence, and to share your evolving vision with the world.

As a photographer and graphic designer, Burger challenged herself to create a series of images from specimens that she grew or collected in her garden. This endeavor presented the perfect blend of two of her passions, photography and horticulture. Her approach in the Botanicals series looks at the garden through a close-up view of color, form, and texture.
Burger developed this unusual approach to capturing images without a conventional camera, instead, she employs a flatbed scanner. This allows for greater-than-life scale and clarity of minute details, resulting in a unique perspective for the viewer. The Botanicals series shows objects abstracted against a stark black background, allowing the mystery of nature to rise to the forefront.

Conveying the stillness found in tranquil places and intimate moments in nature is a therapeutic modality. I prefer the quiet and poetic elegance of B&W photography where the extraneous is removed and I can create a genuine connection with my subjects, developing mood and a deeper, more emotive expression. Paring down abundant vistas in order to isolate my subjects, I seek out the extraordinary in the ordinary and form candid moments of solitary intention.

Dance can be pure magic and beauty, and by using long exposure and motion blur (ICD, In Camera Distortion) the artist captures the dreamlike and abstract out of control feeling of allowing your soul to get fully absolved in the rhythm and the music. With the artists enduring fascination for the contrast between highlights and shadows, stillness and movement, dream and reality, this becomes a perfect tool to describe the passion and sensuality in the dance and the photographs become painterly and can be described as work of Abstract Romanticism. The images are created "in camera", i.e. none of the effects are created afterwards in Photoshop or with AI.

Born in Quebec in 1971, Jeff Denis undertook studies in drawing at the Imagine workshops, some Masterclass training in photography and interior decoration. These skills will accompany him during the 30 years that he has been a director in cinema and television. The frozen image, the emotion like extreme slow motion, the silence and abandonment liquefy in the vapor of a tedious daily life. His career includes several gallery exhibitions, teaching cinematographic art, illustrating children's books, two film companies and several television series. Through an invasive profession, photographic escape continues to develop. Rural scenes, humans, travel, the impromptu and his love of immodesty confirm an omnipresent creative energy that he deposits on these canvases.

My fine art photography tries to convey the sense of mystery and wonder that I find in the natural world. Work from my various series has been juried into more than 65 exhibitions, including the A. Smith Gallery, PH21 Gallery, Davis Orton Gallery, and the Midwest Center for Photography, as well as featured in publications including Dodho Magazine, Shadow and Light Magazine, and All About Photo. I currently teach the fine art photography course "The Artful Garden" for Santa Fe Workshops. I am perhaps better known for my tv and film directing work, having helmed more than 160 episodes, pilots and features for tv including muliple Emmy-award winning series such as Orange Is the New Black, Weeds, Modern Family, Ugly Betty and Arrested Development. I live in Los Angeles California with my wife, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, and our two dogs T. Beau and Luna.
